He began as a corrections officer with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office before transitioning to a patrol deputy role. In 1990\, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) as a state trooper\, where he served for nearly three decades\, retiring in 2018 as a lieutenant in the Texas Ranger Division. Following his retirement\, he worked as a sergeant investigator with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office. In October 2021\, he was appointed as Precinct 3 Constable to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Kevin Stofle. On January 1\, 2025\, Matthew Lindemann was sworn in as the Williamson County Sheriff.
